Marine Radio Benefits

Getting the Most Out of Your On-board Communication Device

When it comes to Walleye fishing, a marine radio can make a big difference in the fishing success you see. A marine radio is needed not just for fishing but also for safety, and these radios are where all communications occur on the water.

These electronic devices come in two different types, mounted or handheld, and if you are a Walleye angler a mounted unit may be a better option because it is secure and hands free.

If your boat does not come with a battery though, a handheld radio may be the only option available. Marine radios have many uses when it comes to Walleye fishing, and these units can help you be more successful at locating the fish, which is a big part of the equation for success when Walleye fishing.

All conversations between anglers out on the water can be monitored through these units.

You can set the radio to a specific channel and listen for any anglers detailing their success and where the Walleye are all hanging at.

The scan feature on marine radios can be really helpful.

You can set the radio so that it continuously scans for any chatter or broadcasts.

When conversations are found by the radio while it is scanning, you can listen in and determine what is going on in many areas of the water.

This will let you know which areas are hot and where anglers are getting good bites from the Walleye. The decibel rating on the marine radio is important, because this will determine how weak the radio signal can be and still be heard.

If you are going to be on a lake with a lot of traffic, you may want to look for a decibel rating of eighty or more, even though these units are also the most expensive. This will allow you to pick up even the weakest radio signals on the water, and will give you a clearer picture of where the Walleye are active.

With the information you glean from your communication device, you can move to the area where the Walleye are at instead of fishing waters which may be empty or only hold a few fish.

The clarity of the radio should also be considered. The conversations overheard should be clear enough to allow you to hear the locations and results of the fishing activity.

The marine radio you choose should also have a weather channel.

This can allow you to determine which direction the wind or rain is going to hit the water from. Many times this can produce the Walleye chop that anglers dream of.

Knowing where the weather is coming from will tell you which direction the fish will be heading once it arrives. Marine radios have many functions and features, and some of these can help put you on the Walleye much better.

No matter which marine radio you choose, make sure that it is powerful enough to pick up all the signals, and that it is clear enough for you to hear the conversation.

The scanning feature can be very helpful in locating conversations between anglers, and help you locate the Walleye.
