Andrew Martinsen's Walleye Fishing Update

Learning your way Through the Luhr Jensen Line

Looking at the Lures that get Walleye Excited

Hi, Andrew Martinsen here. The start of the Luhr Jensen Company may have been humble but the lures that they produce certainly are not. Since 1932, Luhr Jensen has been leaving its mark on the fishing world. Anglers and walleye alike can't get enough of these lures.

Crankbaits don't always work well in deep water. They just don't stay in the strike zone long enough to yield the best results. The Hot Lips Express may be just what you need.

This lure dives down quickly at an almost perfect vertical line. Drop the lure and slowly work it back to you. Make contact on any submerged obstacles with the lure and you will see surprising results. The Hot Lips Express comes in a variety of sizes that will help you reach depths of twelve feet down to twenty-four feet.

Nothing can attract a walleye's attention like a crippled baitfish. Nothing imitates this better than Luhr Jensen's Crippled Herring. This is a great versatile lure that deserves a place in the tackle box. It can be cast or trolled. It has the right moves to incite a walleye to strike.

The Crippled Herring has excellent yields when vertically fished. Once you have found the spot that you want to target, let the lure fall to the bottom or just below the walleye. For the best results, use the smallest size that you can. The action of the lure will be much better.

Bring the lure up by swinging your rod up in a slow, steady motion. Follow this with a quick drop by lowering the rod tip toward the water. The majority of strikes will happen as the lure falls. Pay attention to any changes and set the hook immediately.

The Luhr Jensen Radar was made primarily for the professional circuit, but any angler can benefit from it. The Radar is a well-built, stream-lined lure that yields a vibrating motion. This makes it ideal for both open water and weed beds.

The Radar pulls through depths of seven to ten feet without any problems. It is a simple lure that doesn't need any fancy techniques to make it work better. It meets all the specifications for the professional circuit; this lure can tag along if you join the ranks of pros and tournaments.

By far, the most successful piece of Luhr Jensen gear is the Dipsy Diver. The Dipsy Diver is a diver and planer in one compact package. This round disk can be set to pull in any direction. This allows you to have multiple lures trailing behind without fear of tangles in the lines. More lures means more area covered. This is especially important when trolling large water bodies.

Luhr Jensen Company was an innovative concept that came from the Depression Era. The lures they produce are high quality and can yield a high quantity of walleye. The next time the walleye are beckoning for you to come out, take a Luhr Jensen for a little extra action.
